following the meeting, senator lindsay graham and john mccain spoke to others. their comments to reporters are about 10 minutes. >> we had a very candid discussion with ms. rice and the acting director c.i.a., we are troubled by some of the answers we have gotten. there was evidence leading up to the attack on the consulate and the tragic deaths of brave americans and ambassador rice was warned sufficiently. it is clear that the information given to the american people was incorrect when she said it was a spontaneous demonstration that triggered it. it was not. there were many indications that that was not the case, including statements from libyans and other americans. bottom line i'm more concerned than i was before that the explanation about how four americans tide does not do justice to the reality at the time and in hindsight clearly was wrong. in realtime it was disconnected from reality. anybody looking at the threats, it would jump out at you that this was an al qaeda storm in the making. i'm disappointed in our intelligence community. i think they faile

it strikes me as bizarre that senator mccain and lindsey graham are hypocritically going after her. >> i don't disagree with mark on this level. susan rice was brought in as a pawn. i think that when you are talking about an attack on an ambassador and you have a c can ia annex that came under fire and you have navy seals and airmen that end up dying and you have questions of military strategy and state department issues and so forth, i don't know where the u.s. ambassador to the u.n. even fits that equation. but let me quickly defend the honor of an indent person that mark just slandered. condoleezza rise did not present any information before the body of the u.n. that was done by general colin foul when he was -- r -- colin powell when he was secretary of state. >> you could say she was a pawn. but she has an impeccable record at the u.n. >> she gave false information to five national talk shows. >> she has some of the most stringent sanctions against north korea, iran and the most international defense our ally israel has drummed up in wong support for america's fight against terro

what senator lindsey graham said after the meeting. >> bottom line, i'm more disturbed now than i was before, that the 16th september explanation about how four americans died in benghazi, libya, by ambassador rice, i think, does not do justice to the reality at the time and in hindsight clearly was completely wrong. >> dana bash following developments on capitol hill. before susan rice went before these republicans, senators, they seemed to be backing away from criticizing her. now it looks like in speaking with them, this is backfired. can you tell us what happened? >> reporter: that's right. i was told by a source familiar with this meeting that the reason why the senators backed off public comments, softened them, they did, susan rice requested a meeting and felt that was the most appropriate thing to do not keep pounding her before they could talk face-to-face. you're absolutely right. by all accounts it did not go well inside that meeting held in a classified setting, i should tell you, with the acting director of the cia. listen to what john mccain said, one of the chief critic
